My Name is Loh Kiwan is a Korean movie that was adapted from a novel of the same title, written by Cho Hae-jin. The novel, published in 2019, follows the story of Loh Ki-Wan (Song Joong-Ki), a North Korean defector.
Thanks to his mother, Ok-Hee (Kim Sung-Ryoung), Ki-Wan has a chance to travel to Belgium and seek refuge status from the government. The film documents his struggle to obtain this citizenship and his encounter with Mari (Choi Sung-Eun), a Korean who now has Belgian citizenship.
The two are different from each other since Mari doesn’t have a reason to live anymore. Meanwhile, Ki-Wan wants to live a new life in Belgium. Despite their differences, the two fall in love with each other.
