What is A Killer Paradox Story About?
A Killer Paradox is based on a webtoon called Salinja o Nangnam, which was written by Ggomabi and illustrated by Nomabi. The webtoon was published from July 8, 2010 to June 3, 2011.
The Kdrama follows the story of an ordinary university student, Lee Tang (Choi Woo-Sik), who accidentally kills a drunk man while at his part-time job. It turns out that the person he killed is a serial killer who has been on the run for four years.
The incident gives Lee Tang a special ability to recognize bad people who deserve to die. He later starts killing evil people and becomes a serial killer too.
Soon, Detective Jang Nan-Gam (Son Suk-Ku) starts investigating his case and starts suspecting him as the killer. Meanwhile, he is also being pursued by an ex-detective-turned-serial killer, Song Chon (Lee Hee-Jun).
Which City Did They Film the A Killer Paradox Philippines Scene?
There is a 2-minute clip showing the controversial A Killer Paradox Philippines scene. We see the lead actor, Tang, hiding in the slums of Manila. To be more specific, we see him helping out fishermen as they collect their catch of the day while in the Fishing Capital of the Philippines, Navotas City.
After he helps out with them, Tang retreats to his makeshift room that provides very little comfort– a bunk bed and an electric fan to keep him cool. As he goes about his day, he is approached by a man who asks him where he’s from.
Tang is then apprehended by undercover police officers and taken to the station where they discover he has a fake passport and illegal stay in the country. They wonder why he would go to such lengths when he doesn’t have a criminal record in Korea. Tang wonders the same thing.
The next thing we know, he exits an airport (somewhere in Korea) wearing sandals, shorts, and a thin shirt. In contrast, everyone around him is wearing layers of clothing and coats ready for the cool weather in Seoul.
When Did Choi Woo-Shik Visit Manila?
Eagle-eyed viewers shared behind-the-scenes photos of the Korean actor shooting in the streets of Navotas. It was also revealed that he shot his scenes in March 2023.
How Are Fans Responding to This Mention of the Philippines?
Although many fans praised the production of the Kdrama for choosing to film in the country, others can’t help but react that the country was portrayed negatively as the landing place for criminals and convicts.
Some were also upset about how Koreans viewed Pinoys.

We also can’t discount the fact that this could have been a PR move to hype up the Kdrama. After all, Filipinos often go crazy whenever a Filipino or a city is included in a foreign particular movie/TV series because of #PinoyPride.
Either way, many are really happy that the producers of A Killer Paradox picked us for this cameo scene.
